Volunteers are assigned by the International Office to one of the
several projects that constitute the Amigos Programs each year. While
volunteers are asked to provide a list of
their top selections, no volunteer is guaranteed that he or she will be
assigned to his/her first or second choice.
The
AMIGOS field staff devises the pairings once the volunteers have
arrived in country. They strive to make compatible matches among the
volunteers. It is also
likely that Houston volunteers will NOT be assigned as partners. It all works out!
Country
Assignment
Preference forms are distributed to volunteers in January.
Chapter
trainers
will explain the process used by the International Office to
place volunteers in assignments. Data from approximately 600 volunteers
from all over the country are supplied to the International Office and
a computer weighting system is used with consideration of the rank
order of volunteers' country preference.
The
Houston Chapter holds a COUNTRY ASSIGNMENT PARTY, usually in February,
with the volunteers and parents receiving their assignments.
