Part of what makes Amigos a success is family participation. While the
program requires a significant amount of responsibility from the
volunteers parents need to play a role in the following aspects.
|
| Medical |
Oversee all the medical
requirements, making necessary appointments with your family doctor,
helping the volunteer keep track of the immunizations, and making sure
the documentation is turned in on time.
|
| Passport
Acquisition |
Make sure the Passport Application is made as
soon as possible if the volunteer does not already possess a passport.
|
| Event
Attendance |
The Potluck Dinner, the Ticket Party before volunteers
depart and the Welcome Home Dinner
are all important events in the life of the organization.
|
| Parent Meetings |
Over the course of the
volunteer's training period there will be two parent meetings. During
the summer there is one parent meeting. |
| Parent Route |
Paralleling the volunteer's
"route" concept is the "Parent Route," which is a means of coordinating
and communicating dates, details, needs, and forms for a small group of
about six families. A Route Leader is an important but easy job.
|
Service Projects and Retreat
|
Helping with the service
project which the volunteers take on is both fun and necessary. It is
an important milestone in volunteer participation, and cannot work
without parents to assist with the many tasks.
|
| Enjoyment |
Have fun and find personal
satisfaction in watching your volunteer grow and learn!
